We Excavate was founded in Rhode Island in the summer of 2025 by Zakariah J. McLeroy. From a young age, Zakariah has honed his skills in the trenches, managing real estate development for residential and commercial projects, and operating heavy equipment as a U.S. Navy Seabee. This expertise led to the creation of We Excavate, specializing in site development, foundation excavation for residential and commercial properties, land clearing, and demolition.

The founders background includes project management in commercial construction and residential lot development, extensive heavy equipment training in the Navy—operating dozers, scrapers, graders, dump trucks, excavators, and other earth-moving vehicles—and inspecting utility infrastructure for United States Infrastructure Company on National Grid contracts in Massachusetts.

After his Navy service, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics of Sustainable Development and Management, enhancing his project management abilities. His time spent in the labor market delivering projects supporting communities and people is a privilege and opportunity he hopes to continue throughout the years of his career.
